The Bentley Continental GT is one of the most aesthetically-pleasing vehicles on the market today. This stunning example of automotive engineering is the perfect mix of luxury and a sporty feel. This beauty isn’t lost on the driver even after you step inside, with its perfect diamond quilting, metallic trimmings, ample storage space, and high quality, modern design. Even with all this beauty, though, this Bentley is still vulnerable to common malfunctions and wear-and-tear just like any other vehicle.
In fact, some have said that Bentleys are more prone than usual to such automotive flaws. Let’s just say that they are not known for their longevity and, when specifically regarding the quality of manufacturing, these cars can be quite unreliable. High-end vehicles, in general, are known for breaking down more often, and because they are typically foreign-made, there is a significant time cost for sourcing parts for repairs. A few of the most common problems that arise in this model are window failure, problems with the suspension, failure of the brake lights, and other electrical problems. Not all of these problems directly affect the safety of the driving experience, however, they may be indicative of more pressing electrical issues that can have a stronger impact on your Bentley’s performance. The failure of the window motor can be caused by a few different things: This can be a malfunction of the electrical system or wear and tear over time to the motor itself. If you are noticing a hissing noise coming from the window when moving it up or down, this can be an indication that a failure of the motor is upcoming.
Each window motor has its own electronic control unit (ECU) controlled by the vehicle’s engine computer. The advantage of this is that there can potentially be one isolated window failure at a time, however, the problem here is that an isolated failure can be a complex repair. Unfortunately, the window motors cannot be changed alone so the whole ECU will need to be replaced.
Problems with the suspension are, in fact, quite easily prevented. (That is, if they’re reliably manufactured.) Driving behaviors such as going over speed bumps too quickly can accelerate the wear on your suspension, as the shocks are not designed to handle such harsh impacts. You can tell when your suspension is going out if your vehicle is sitting lower than usual or if you begin to hear a knocking noise coming from your vehicle when driving.
Luckily, this problem is a much easier fix than the windows, but this doesn’t make it any more fun to deal with.
Again, this could be an electrical or hardware problem. This failure specifically refers to the brake light in the center top or base of the rear window – not the rear lights on the trunk of the car. This is an issue that can be dealt with as easily as the suspension, however, this would entail the replacement of the entire unit.
As previously mentioned, electrical problems can manifest in many different ways in all vehicles, not just Bentleys. It is important to stay vigilant and be exceedingly aware of when your Bentley is experiencing electrical problems, as these issues can cause fault signals on your dash. For example, your vehicle may warn you that you need to check the engine or pay attention to the tire pressure, but in reality, there may not be an actual problem with these things, and rather, a malfunction of the electrical system.
